Specter To Seek Re-Election in 2010
U.S. Senator Arlen Specter announced today he intends to run for a sixth term in 2010. There has been much speculation that his recent health battles would convince him to retire. He had a bout with Hodgkins Disease from which he seems to have recovered. He has been the Senate Republican maverick of late however and there are persistent rumors Pat Toomey is gearing up for another try in 2010. That would be another interesting race. Democrats eyeing the seat include Chuck Pennacchio.
Wasn't Specter responsible for the addendum that has since caused the whole federal prosecutor debacle? If so, I would certainly hope that any opponent would raise this in the campaign.

Yes, he inserted the provision at the last minute so no one would notice it was in there. His press person told me it was a separation of powers issue.
Yes, I do believe this will be a campaign issue in 2010 and it should be one. This was big.

Toomey? Isn't he the CfG(Club for Growth) guy? I hope he primaries Specter. Please!! The thing is, we'll have to have a good candidate ready to kick his ass in the general. No more free passes to Arlen. Also, those labor unions that supported Arlen last time are on notice. It would be so sweet to send Arlen into retirement via a loss.

Yes, Pat Toomey went to work for the Club for Growth after coming just shy of beating Specter in 2004. He's been supporting right wing candidates ever since including "Citizen" Mike Folmer who won Brightbill's old state senate seat. Toomey and Richard Mellon Scaife poured a ton of money into that primary to defeat Chip Brightbill.
I suspect we'd see a rerun of 2004 and this time Snarlen Arlen might not prevail.

When all is said and done, we might be better off if Arlen "listen to what I say, but don't watch what I do" loses the primary to some wing-nut. How he has independents convinced that he's a moderate is one thing, but the union support he got in his last election still annoys me to no end.
This guy has got to go, one way or another.

That AFL-CIO endorsement over Joe Hoeffel was obscene. I agree it's time for Mr. George to wake up. Some of the things he supports, like the Governor's bailout to insurance companies instead of a single payer system, baffle me.
