Stephanie Frank Singer has been successful in her request for a list of all polling places in the state. The Governor finally relented and allowed the Department of State to provide the list which is public information. Each county publishes a list of polling places prior to election day. In fact, that is required for fair elections. The state strangely decided to keep the entire list secret for fear terrorists would use the information.
This lame excuse of keeping public documents and records secret because of an obsession with terrorists is irrational. The Soviet Union was a far more fearsome enemy for decades and we didn't rescind our concept of an open society. Now, after one day of attacks we are classifying millions of documents which the public needs access to to insure a free and open society.
This example was ridiculous due to the fact the information is readily available county by county. Doing that for 67 counties, however, is onerous when the state has the entire list readily available.
