House Votes to Expand Healthcare Coverage
The Pennsylvania House voted 114-81 yesterday, in a lengthy session, to expand access to affordable healthcare.
"...the House Democrats' plan, known as Pennsylvania Access to Basic Care, would build on the state's adultBasic program, adding coverage for other services such as behavioral health care and prescription drugs. AdultBasic currently offers physician care, in-patient hospitalization and other services to low-income uninsured people ages 19 to 64."
The best proposal, House Bill 1660, up for a hearing on March 19th, would eliminate health insurance companies in Pennsylvania and replace them with a single government unit collecting a 10% payroll tax and a 3% income tax (premiums) and pay all private providers. The Family and Business Healthcare Security Act would give every Pennsylvania resident full, complete, comprehensive healthcare with no deductibles or copayments.
