« Oops...Dick Made me do It | Main | Common Sense 2 March Edition »

March 12, 2008

Obama can crush Hillary, and in Pennsylvania- where it counts.

You know, it can get discouraging seeing Hillary's below-the-belt politics and race card-using tactics working in some forums. However, I overheard something that can be the ticket to silencing Clinton and her stranglehold on the Democratic party once and for all. According to Fox News analyst/ex-advisor to Trent Lott and Bill Clinton, Dick Morris in his article entitled, "It's Time to Call in Hatchet Men Against the Clintons," mentions that the best way to keep Clinton from pulling Obama from his above-the-fray message of hope and change and losing the nomination is to never give her the punch directly. He has to make sure he answers "through his surrogates." Obama must attack her now, but allow his surrogates to do all the punching and kicking. He cannot allow her to take away what is meant for him, the nomination. In the Rasmussen analysis poll, Obama is favor to win the nomination by 78%. The Clintons know this and will resort to the dirtiest of tactics, from fearmonging to racial stereotyping, to get what they believe is their right to receive and that is the nomination. He needs to keep sight of Hillary's "financial dealings and her relationships with special interest groups." Like what Dick Morris has explained, he will "remain on message and his attacks will be in sync with his general approach to the race."

Obama must not let her get away with what clearly are her attempts to perplex and disenfranchise the party from its once-in-a-generation chance for real, true change from the deception and corruption of the neoconservative regime, as well as the old-school, archaic politics of trickery from the Clintons. Obama also needs to craft his message to acknowledge the specific concerns of Pennsylvanian voters, which are the failing manufacturing industry and economy, NAFTA, inability for people to receive health care and have access to decent health care, and the fact that men and women have to deal with their brothers, sisters, sons and daughters, spouses being dragged off to multiple tours to fight an endless invasion under false pretenses and having to deal with the Bush Administration's aggressive stance against having  goals or timetables towards bringing them back. Judgment and Change are Obama's biggest regard. He owns the throne of those concepts and he needs to address Pennsylvanians with that and not let Hillary manipulate that for her own cold, calculating gain to win what she believes is automatically entitled to her. Don't let get away with her argument of saying she can win the big states!

Preach it! I think he can do this and win PA. I am so fed up with the Clintons right now I could spit.

I think it is only fair that you give more information about how using surrogates in the campaigns is NOT the best option. For one, using surrogates always makes me wonder: just who am I voting for, the candidate or his/her strategic advisor(s)?

Of course Obama can win in PA. He's got nearly 6 weeks to inspire and make people stop being afraid to have hope for a better future. We've been disappointed and disillusioned so many times by so many politicians that we are hesitant about placing our hope in Obama's candidacy and message of change. But Obama tells us that he can't do it by himself. Change will rerquire all of us pulling together and continuing long after he is elected. We should not be afraid to hope in ourselves.

Yes, I know that the Clinton campaign will continue waging a (Republican type) war of fear and negative attacks on Obama's mesage of hope and change. It's her only chance of winning -- and it's obvious that winning is all that matters to her. And that is where the surrogates come in. Obama can't allow her kitchen sink attacks to distract him from his message of hope and inspiration; but his camapign surrogates can't allow her baseless, divisive, and deceptive charges to go unanswered.

SB, you never vote for a single person for president. You always vote for the team that the candidate brings with him or (but not this year) her.

Excellent article Peter.

Yes, SB, you are absolutely correct. Surrogates CAN be rather stupid.

Focus on the issues of the campaign . . . not the campaign:

* Obama is committed to ensuring Social Security is solvent and viable for the American people, now and in the future. Obama will be honest with the American people about the long-term solvency of Social Security and the ways we can address the shortfall. Obama will protect Social Security benefits for current and future beneficiaries alike. And he does not believe it is necessary or fair to hardworking seniors to raise the retirement age. Obama is strongly opposed to privatizing Social Security.

* Obama will eliminate all income taxation of seniors making less than $50,000 per year. This will provide an immediate tax cut averaging $1,400 to 7 million seniors and relieve millions from the burden of filing tax returns.

* After reports that lobbyists, but not the American people, received information about the most unsafe nursing homes in the country, Barack Obama demanded the Department of Health and Human Services release that information to the public. Following Obama's letter, the names of care facilities cited for unsafe care were released to the public. Obama's efforts follow his successful efforts to make nursing home information public and strengthen elder abuse laws.

You want racist talk...take a listen to Obama's pastor Jeremiah Wright sometime.
