Today we honor and remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This year we also honor the life and legacy of the late Ron Rouse who hosted local events honoring Dr. King for many years. Mr. Rouse operated The Minority Voice, an important newspaper in our community.

While working with the Raise the Minimum Wage Coalition last spring Senator Chip Brightbill made a comment to the Lebanon Daily News that we didn't need to raise the minimum wage because no one was working for such low wages any longer. The newspaper easily found many who were.
The working poor have suffered mightily under Republican Congressional leadership. The $5.15/hour minimum wage has been frozen for ten years. Unfortunately inflation wasn't frozen. The working poor have been a drain on social services. It has increased juvenile crime as parents are forced to work two full time jobs, had negative effects on education because these parents can't be parents, and imposed much misery on many good, hard working Americans while corporate profits have soared.
I found a series of seven videos at YouTube about this issue. These are people stuck in minimum wage jobs talking about their lives. They're very powerful. When you go to vote on November 7th remember which candidates support raising these people from poverty and which do not. It's rather easy to determine: an "R" after their name means they're opposed, a "D" means they support helping working people.
Watch this video then tell your friends to watch. Joe Pitts (PA-16) defended Dennis Hastert in last week's Reading Eagle. He says there was no cover up of the Foley scandal.
