Jerry Falwell

I've decided to begin a fund to collect money to send Jerry Falwell an air conditioning system.  I suspect he probably needs one about now.  The bigoted, hateful "preacher" dropped dead yesterday.  Good riddance is all I can say.  Falwell is one of the those most responsible for dividing Americans, demonizing everyone he didn't like, perverting Christianity into Neo Christianity, and injecting faith based fundamentalism into governmental programs.

The constant erosion of the concept of separation of church and state began with his Moral Majority.  It has progressed to a point where a Jewish army veteran was recently subjected to evangelical conversion attempts while being treated at a VA hospital.  Your tax dollars are now being used by government agencies to fund groups providing social services.  If you're in need of these services you have to attend Bible study sessions or be exposed to fundamentalist missionaries attempting to convert you to their faith.

Falwell made many outrageous, bigoted, hateful statements.  He was lost in his fantasy world where gays, secular Americans, atheists and others caused 9/11 and every natural disaster.  Every hurricane hitting Florida was due to the gay days at Disney World, for example.  He ignored the fact hurricanes had been hitting Florida for millennia.  While hosting the old CNN political program Crossfire he actually said the Iraq War was going well if you watched it on Fox instead.  As if simply watching Fox's coverage changed the reality of that horror.

He referred to NOW as the National Organization of Witches, totally demonized gays and lesbians, told Muslims that their holy leader Muhammad was a terrorist, was an infamous anti-semite, and incited much of the intolerance and violence directed at those he condemned.  People like Matthew Shepard and James Byrd were brutally murdered because of people like Jerry Falwell.  He didn't give a damn about the people who were hurt by his incitements as long as his cash registers continued to sing with contributions.

I'm reminded of the Biblical passage about rich men and the eye of a needle about now.  Not only was Jerry Falwell a rich man he made his riches by demonizing people who, mostly, were unable to fight back.  Those he referred to as responsible for all the sins of the world didn't have his television platform, public speeches and access to press interviews.  Jerry Falwell had enough money to buy his own university but I bet he wasn't able to buy an eye of a needle large enough to pass through after he hit that floor yesterday. 

Does anyone know how to send an air conditioner to hell?  Does anyone care Falwell might want one?  Send your contributions to those organizations he condemned and demonized, NOW, HRC, the Anti-Defamation League, etc.  Go ahead, now is the time to put some heat on Falwell's organization.

Did you hear how they figured out he was really dead? They sent a naked 8 year old boy into the room and when Jerry didn't move that confirmed he was dead...oh wait...I'm wrong...that's how they figured out the Pope was dead....
