FBI Director Robert Mueller testified to the House Judiciary Committee yesterday that his boss, Alberto Gonzales, lied to them earlier this week. The Attorney General, called before Congress to explain his earlier lies, lied once again when he said the program involved in his hospital room visit to former AG John Ashcroft involved another, still secret program. Gonzo lied when he made those statements this week according to the FBI Director.
Mueller says there was much disagreement about the legality of the NSA domestic wiretapping spy program. Gonzales head testified in February 2006 there was no serious disagreement on this issue. How many times has the nation's top law enforcement official gone to Congress and lied in his testimony? Many would argue he's done so every time.
Gonzo keeps getting caught in his lies by his own people. Whether James Comey, Mueller or other DOJ personnel, the AG has been caught with his pants on fire too many times for it to be accidental. This man is guilty not only of perjury but obstruction. His lies only further support the need for Congress to examine White House officials involved so as to try and obtain the facts.
The Bush Administration is engaging in a campaign of stalling. Their strategy is to lie, obfuscate, stall and avoid accountability until the end of its term. They have no intention of complying with any investigation, any oversight, any means of accountability for their crimes. As Lee pointed out in a comment, impeachment can be completed in six months. It needs to begin right now. George Bush cannot impede or stall impeachment. If he and his cohorts refuse to defend themselves they're simply tossed from office and responsible government can again take over running this country. More than that they will have been forced to atone for their conduct. A side benefit will be it will occur during the presidential campaign and voters will see exactly what happens when they put Republicans in charge.
