Lou Barletta's journey of demagoguery was derailed today by a judge who struck down Hazleton's anti-immigrant ordinances, as expected. Of course the real reason the Mayor embarked on this was to increase his profile for a Congressional run sometime in the future. What better way to get showcased on Lou Dobbs than to pander to all the bigots in America?
How much has this cost Hazleton's taxpayers in legal fees? They may only be starting now that the laws have been dismissed. Every person and business harmed by those actions now has standing to sue the City for damages. Ignorant people get what they deserve however so don't feel sorry for the bad people of Hazleton who supported Barletta.
It may be only a small ray of hope, but take notice that it was a federal judge who struck down the ordinance as unconstitutional. Federal judges have lifetime appointments and need not be concerned about the effects of their rulings on their prospects for reelection/retention.
