I thought I'd written this same title before and a quick search showed I had. Therefore this is Part II. It's hard work keeping track of all of Alberto Gonzales' lies but we're doing the best we can to keep up despite the horrific work load it creates. Thanks to the entire team here who keep me apprised of the latest developments. Only George W. Bush can appreciate the hard work this involves. Heck, I may even need to travel to Texas this month and clear some brush to get some relief.
The Attorney General, in his most recent prevarications testimony before Congress, was asked by Sen. Kennedy whether senior DOJ officials were involved in the Karl Rove political briefings given to other Executive Branch departments. AG replied he wasn't aware of any. More evidence has now surfaced that Gonzo hasn't been aware of anything which has happened under his leadership in his department. He sent a letter which clarifies that, yes, they did occur.
At least twelve such sessions were conducted at the White House regarding political matters, strategies, and targeted Republican races. We know from the GSA seminars Rove used these to plan how each department or agency could help GOP incumbents or challengers. We now know how the DOJ participated: they leaked "news" of non existent investigations of Democrats shortly before elections, prosecuted Democrats and fired prosecutors who went after fellow Republicans.
Rules exist preventing Justice Department officials from being involved in sessions like the ones Rove and his assistants Sara Taylor and Scott Jennings provided:
"Internal guidelines forbid partisan meetings at the Justice Department and sharply restrict the ability of employees to participate directly in election campaigns or other political activities."
Another day, another lie. Gonzales is learning to correct his lies and misrepresentations before being accused of perjury however so this is progress. The underlying question from all of this is this: if Gonzales wasn't running the Department of Justice who was? He is obviously nothing more than an empty headed nincompoop put in place to make it appear there was an Attorney General. He's been shockingly ignorant about everything happening at Justice so I wonder if he did anything but sit at his computer playing solitaire all day? Now he's enmeshed in a game of truth or dare.
