In a blow to all those who have been endeavoring to stop the SugarHouse casino from being constructed near a residential area in Philadelphia the state Supreme Court upheld its license today.
"In a 6-1 decision, the state Supreme Court said the city has no authority to interfere with the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board's selection of the SugarHouse site along the Delaware River where the casino owner, HSP Gaming LP, plans to build."
Opponents of the casino are concerned about traffic, noise, crime and public drunkenness as a result of SugarHouse being so close to homes, schools and churches. Casino Free Philadelphia fought hard to keep the new slots parlors in areas of the city where their impact would be lessened. The state gambling commission decided against several major, spectacular casino designs because the operators also had ties to Atlantic City.
The few Pennsylvania casinos open are impacting AC already.
